Adrien Brody says he turned down a Hobbit role in The Lord of the Rings

Adrien Brody says he turned down a Hobbit role in Peter Jackson’s 2001 film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

He recalled in a 2022 interview that he was looking for something different and did not know exactly which character he might have played.

He regretted the decision after seeing the film at a cinema with a former girlfriend, who reminded him he had turned it down.

The film was the first in Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and became a major box-office success, earning nearly $900 million worldwide.

The film was highly popular with audiences, receiving an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 from AlloCiné viewers.

Brody later won the best actor Oscar for The Pianist and worked with Jackson on King Kong in 2005.

He said he might not have appeared in King Kong if he had taken the Lord of the Rings role.
