Agnimitra Paul orders Salt Lake Ward 39 footpaths cleared
Agnimitra Paul visited an area of Salt Lake where many sidewalks were blocked.
Cars, motorcycles, bricks, sand and other items were on the footpaths.
She said sidewalks are meant for people walking, not for private use.
She especially wanted children and older people to be able to walk safely.
She ordered the paths to be cleared by that night.
She told officials to remove materials and vehicles blocking them.
She also warned officials not to allow the sidewalks to become blocked again.
At a nearby market, she opened a machine selling cloth bags for ₹10.
Urban development minister Agnimitra Paul ordered residents and builders to clear Ward 39 footpaths around CA Market by Tuesday night.
She said footpaths were reserved for pedestrians and could not be used for parking or storing construction materials.
Paul directed the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation and police to confiscate obstructions and impound illegally parked vehicles.
She warned municipal ward officers of disciplinary action for allowing cleared areas to become encroached again.
Paul also inaugurated a ₹10 cloth-bag vending machine at CA Market to discourage plastic use.
