Two Bengal farmers return home from BGB custody
Two farmers who live near the border between India and Bangladesh were working in their fields on the Indian side.
Some people from the other side of the border came and took them away.
The farmers were then handed over to the border guards of Bangladesh, called the BGB.
The people who took them wanted India to release a Bangladeshi national who was being held by Indian border guards.
The farmers' families were very worried while they were gone.
The border guards from both countries — the BSF of India and the BGB of Bangladesh — met to talk about the situation.
They agreed to make a swap: India gave back the detained Bangladeshi national, and Bangladesh gave back the two farmers.
After the swap, both farmers came home safely.
They said nobody hurt them and that they were given food, tea, biscuits and bidis while they waited.
Two farmers from West Bengal's Nadia district returned home after being allegedly taken across the India-Bangladesh border and handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Sachin Das and Narattam Biswas were allegedly taken from the Indian side of the border to pressure Indian authorities into releasing a detained Bangladeshi national.
Their release followed a flag meeting between the Border Security Force (BSF) and BGB, which involved a simultaneous handover of the detained Bangladeshi national.
Both farmers said they were not physically tortured and were provided food, tea, biscuits and bidis while in BGB custody.
Around 1,000 Indians gathered at the Tehatta border and about 300 Bangladeshi nationals came to see the farmers during their detention.
