Ganga Nears Extreme Danger Level at Malda as Farakka Discharges
The Ganga River is almost at a very dangerous water level near Manikchak in Malda.
It was measured at 25.22 metres, while the extreme danger level is 25.30 metres.
That means the river was only 8 centimetres below that level.
The water was not rising at the time of the report, but officials expected it to rise soon.
Several other rivers were also sending large amounts of water downstream.

Discharge from the Sone River had declined to about 4.5 lakh cusecs, while the Kosi and Gandak were releasing 2.16 lakh and 1.64 lakh cusecs respectively.
Officials said the Farakka Barrage pond level was being maintained and the overall situation remained under control.
