Uttar Pradesh Anti-Land Mafia Campaign Frees 2 Lakh Acres
In the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, some bad people called 'land mafias' were taking over public land that belongs to everyone.
The government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, decided to stop them.
Over the last nine and a half years, they have taken back more than 84,000 hectares, which is about 2.08 lakh acres, a very large area.
To do this, they made special teams at four different levels of the state.
People could complain online using something called the Anti-Land Mafia Portal.
More than 99 out of every 100 complaints were solved.
Many of the land mafias were taken to court, and some were put in jail.
The land that was taken back will be used for good things like schools, hospitals and factories.
This helps the state grow and creates new jobs for people.
The Uttar Pradesh government's Anti-Land Mafia campaign has freed more than 84,005 hectares (about 2.08 lakh acres) of land from illegal encroachment over the past nine and a half years.
A four-tier Anti-Land Mafia Task Force operates at the state, divisional, district and tehsil levels to tackle encroachment on public property.
Of 4,34,016 complaints received on the Anti-Land Mafia Portal, 4,31,697 (over 99%) have been resolved, with 2,319 still pending.
The crackdown has resulted in 25,068 revenue cases, 1,168 civil cases and 4,751 FIRs, while 1,413 encroachers have been identified as land mafias, 144 of whom are in jail.
Freed land is being developed as a government land bank for industries, universities, medical colleges and infrastructure projects.
