Vijay's spending-heavy Tamil Nadu budget brings gold, laptops, welfare
Tamil Nadu is a state in India, and it has a new leader named Vijay who used to act in movies.
He just shared his first big money plan, which is called a budget.
The budget says how the state will spend its money.
Vijay wants to make people happy with presents: brides can get a gold coin and a silk saree, and babies born in government hospitals get a tiny gold ring.
He also wants to give laptops to students, fix up schools, and help more sick and older people.
But there is a problem: Tamil Nadu owes a huge amount of money, almost 11 lakh crore rupees, which is a really, really big number.
The government says it will not make taxes higher.
Instead, it plans to earn extra money by fixing how things are run, like collecting taxes better and using computers to watch mining.
It hopes to earn about 16,000 crore extra rupees this way.
It is a big gamble to spend on nice things now and hope the fixes bring in more money later.
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N Marie Wilson presented the TVK government's maiden Budget on Wednesday.
The Annan Seer Thittam allocates Rs 812 crore to give eligible brides an eight-gram gold coin and a silk saree.
The Thai Maaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam, backed by Rs 560 crore, provides a one-gram gold ring to every child born in a government hospital.
The Budget expands school breakfasts, modernises over 3,700 schools, and allocates Rs 2,000 crore for laptops, while acknowledging outstanding debt of nearly Rs 10.99 lakh crore.
Instead of raising taxes, the government expects around Rs 16,000 crore in additional revenue from a liquor levy and technology-led administrative reforms.
