Khammam to Host 2027 South Asian Bodybuilding Championship
A big sports event for bodybuilders is coming to a city in India called Khammam.
It is called the South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship, and it will happen in 2027.
Bodybuilders from many countries in South Asia will come to compete.
The person in charge of sports in India, Mansukh Mandaviya, said yes to the idea.
An important leader from Khammam, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, asked the government to make it official.
The group that runs this championship, called SABPF, already chose Khammam to be the host.
They made this choice at a meeting in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.
About 150 athletes and more than 300 helpers and guests are expected to come.
The government still needs to give a final official permission, called a no-objection certificate.
If everything goes well, Khammam will become famous for hosting this big international event.
Khammam has received in-principle approval from Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to host the 17th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship-2027.
Khammam MP Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy met Mandaviya in New Delhi on Monday to request formal Union government approval for the event.
The South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (SABPF) unanimously awarded hosting rights to Khammam at its Executive Council meeting in Thimphu, Bhutan, on July 1, 2026.
Around 150 athletes from South Asian countries and more than 300 technical officials and other delegates are expected to participate in the championship.
Indian Body Builders Federation president Swami Ramesh Kumar welcomed the initiative, expressing confidence that the event will raise Khammam's sporting profile.
