Tarun Tejpal Gets 10-Year Jail Term, Claims Political Vendetta
Long ago, in 2013, a famous magazine editor named Tarun Tejpal was accused of hurting a young woman who worked for him.
The woman said he hurt her two times inside a hotel elevator during a big magazine event called ThinkFest in Goa.
The police arrested him, but a lower court first said he was not guilty.
A higher court, the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court, disagreed and said he was guilty.
The judges said Mr. Tejpal was her boss and had power over her, so what he did was serious.
He was sentenced to jail for ten years.
Mr. Tejpal says people in power are blaming him because his magazine exposed their secrets.
He says other jailed people like Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam are also being unfairly punished, and he will ask the highest court in India to review his case.

The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court convicted Tarun Tejpal, former Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka, of raping a junior colleague and sentenced him to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment.
The court set aside Tejpal's 2021 acquittal by a Goa sessions court, ruling on assaults that occurred in a hotel elevator during the ThinkFest event on November 7-8, 2013.

Tejpal, 62, called himself a 'political victim' targeted for Tehelka's journalism, compared himself to jailed activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and Surendra Gadling, and said he will appeal to the Supreme Court.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta pressed for maximum punishment saying 'no means no', while the survivor's mother said the verdict 'lifted a heavy weight' from her heart.
