Tehelka Founder Tarun Tejpal Convicted of Rape, Gets 10 Years
Bombay HC Convicts Tarun Tejpal In 2013 Sexual Assault Case, Overturns Goa Trial Court Acquittal · timesnownews.com

A long time ago, in 2013, a woman who worked for a news magazine called Tehelka said her boss, Tarun Tejpal, hurt her in a hotel elevator during a festival in Goa called ThinkFest.

The police filed a case against him in 2014, and he spent some time in jail before getting bail.

In 2021, a court in Goa said he was not guilty, which made many people upset.

The Goa government asked a higher court, the Bombay High Court, to check the case again.

On August 6, 2026, the High Court said Tejpal was guilty and sent him to prison for 10 years, plus a fine.

The court said the first judge was wrong to blame the woman for how she behaved after the incident.

The court also thought an apology email Tejpal wrote after the incident showed he had done something wrong.

Tejpal told the court he believes he is a victim and asked for a lighter punishment.

Now he has asked India's Supreme Court to pause the punishment while he appeals.
