ASR District Reports Fewer Hypertension and Diabetes Cases

Health workers checked millions of people in Andhra Pradesh for high blood pressure, diabetes and some cancers.

The health minister said the tribal-dominated ASR district had fewer blood pressure and diabetes cases than other districts.

He said people there often eat natural food, live traditionally and do physical work.

However, he said scientists need to study whether these habits are really responsible for the difference.

The health checks were carried out through a program called Non-Communicable Diseases 4.0.

Most of the targeted population was screened.

Many people were found to have high blood pressure or diabetes, including people whose conditions were discovered for the first time.

Some suspected cancer cases were also tested and confirmed.
