Har Ghar Tiranga Week Celebrates Indian Flag and National Unity

India is celebrating Har Ghar Tiranga week, a time when people are encouraged to fly the Indian flag at their homes.

The special week runs from August 9 to August 17, 2026, and is meant to make people feel proud of their country.

The campaign was started in 2022 when India marked 75 years of being an independent nation.

There are strict rules about how the flag should look and be treated.

It must be rectangular with a 3:2 shape and should never touch the ground or be shown upside down.

People who burn or damage the flag can go to jail for up to three years.

The flag has three colours: saffron, white, and green, each with a special meaning.

Saffron stands for courage and sacrifice, white stands for peace and truth, and green stands for fertility and growth.

In the middle is a blue wheel called the Ashoka Chakra with 24 spokes.

After the holidays, people should dispose of old flags carefully and respectfully instead of throwing them on the streets.
