Telangana plans cautious water use as El Niño threatens monsoon

A man named Uttam takes care of water in a place called Telangana.

He is worried because the rain might not come this year.

Something called El Niño can change the weather and make less rain fall.

So his group held a special ceremony near a big river called Krishna to ask for rain.

The ceremony is called Maha Varuna Yagam, and it is a way of praying for good rains.

But they did not just pray—they also made a careful plan to save water.

They will watch how much water is in rivers and reservoirs every day.

They will also tell farmers which plants to grow so the water does not run out.

They want every drop of water to be used carefully so crops can grow all season.

By doing both—praying and planning—they hope the farms will be safe.
