ANU Governor Suggests New Centre of Buddhist Studies
A university in Andhra Pradesh celebrated 50 years of its development.
Governor S Abdul Nazeer attended the celebration.
He suggested creating a Centre of Buddhist Studies at the university.
He said this would honor Acharya Nagarjuna, a famous Buddhist philosopher and scholar.
The university is named after Acharya Nagarjuna.
It began as a postgraduate centre of Andhra University in 1967.
It became a full university in 1976.
The governor said the university should continue helping build an inclusive and knowledge-based society.
Andhra Pradesh Governor and Acharya Nagarjuna University Chancellor S Abdul Nazeer suggested establishing a Centre of Buddhist Studies at ANU.
Nazeer said the centre would honor Acharya Nagarjuna, the Buddhist philosopher after whom the university was renamed.
He made the suggestion during ANU’s Golden Jubilee celebrations at Nagarjuna Nagar in Guntur on Friday.
Acharya Nagarjuna University developed from an Andhra University postgraduate centre established in 1967 into a full-fledged university in 1976.
The university was renamed Acharya Nagarjuna University in 2004 and held its Golden Jubilee celebrations this year.
