More than seven crore people and organizations have filed tax returns for the 2026-27 assessment year.

The Income Tax Department says some taxpayers still need to file by August 31, 2026.

This deadline is for people with business or professional income whose accounts do not need an audit.

Most other taxpayers had a July 31 deadline.

Companies and taxpayers needing an audit generally have until October 31.

People covered by transfer-pricing rules have until November 30.

The tax year concerns income earned from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.

Anyone filing late may have to pay a fee and must still verify the return.
