RG Kar victim’s mother seeks wider probe into death
A trainee doctor was raped and murdered at a hospital in Kolkata in August 2024.
Her mother, Ratna Debnath, is also a BJP legislator.
She wants investigators to look at more senior officials.
She named former chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Health Secretary Narayan Swarup Nigam.
Banerjee was also the health minister when the crime happened.
Debnath said the hospital was supposed to be secure.
She also alleged that money was taken for admissions and that her daughter’s thesis paper had been confiscated.
She says she still does not know what happened that night.
BJP Panihati MLA Ratna Debnath renewed her demand to expand the investigation into her daughter’s death.
Debnath’s daughter, a postgraduate trainee doctor, was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata in August 2024.
She asked that former chief minister and then health minister Mamata Banerjee be brought under the inquiry.
She also demanded that current State Health Secretary Narayan Swarup Nigam come under the investigation’s purview.
Debnath said she still does not know what happened to her daughter on the night of the murder.
