Maharashtra Extends Kunbi Record Verification Ahead of Protest
The Maharashtra government is continuing a process for checking old family records.
These records may help some people apply for Kunbi-related caste certificates.
Local committees led by tehsildars do the checking.
The committees will continue working until June 30, 2027.
They must first finish cases where family records have not yet been matched.
The decision was made after discussions by a government cabinet sub-committee.
It came shortly before activist Manoj Jarange Patil planned a protest about Maratha reservations.
The government also recently extended the term of another reservation-related committee led by retired Justice Sandeep Shinde.
Maharashtra extended taluka-level committees verifying Kunbi-related records until June 30, 2027.
The committees assess family genealogies for Kunbi, Maratha-Kunbi and Kunbi-Maratha caste certificate applicants.
Tehsildars head the committees, which must prioritize incomplete genealogy-matching cases.
The extension runs from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027.
The decision came days before Manoj Jarange Patil’s planned Maratha reservation agitation.
