Bengal starts Annapurna Yojana payments; 17 lakh applications rejected
The government of Bengal has a program called Annapurna Yojana that gives money to women.
On Monday, it started sending money to many women, giving Rs 3,000 to each of 1.45 crore women.
Some applications were rejected, meaning those women did not get money.
Most were rejected because their Aadhaar card number could not be linked to their bank account.

The government received 1.80 crore applications till July 10; verification of later applications may continue until September 30.
Rejected applicants can reapply through the 'Social Register' option, and the portal will reopen on August 20.
Eligibility restrictions exclude people earning over Rs 10,000 a month, families earning over Rs 12 lakh annually, and some landowners.
