Puducherry Commission Orders Movers to Pay Rs 73,000
Movers and packers ‘unload’ goods on highway, man wins Rs 73,000 payout · indianexpress.com

A man hired a company to move his household things from Gujarat to Puducherry.

He said the company first quoted Rs 25,000 but later collected Rs 43,000.

He also said the company left his things on a highway and did not deliver his air conditioner.

The commission said the company did not appear to contest his complaint.

Because the AC was bought in 2019 and its current condition was unknown, the commission did not order the company to return it.

Instead, it ordered the company to pay half of the AC’s value.

It also awarded money for extra charges, distress and legal costs.

The total ordered payment was Rs 73,000.

Quotes

Puducherry consumer commission

The commission deciding the consumer complaint.

“Between the place of ‘move from’ and place of ‘move to’ as shown in Exhibit C1 (Bill), the opposite party (company) staff had done some foul play, and thereby they have not delivered the air conditioner. It is the duty of the packers and movers to deliver all the items that were packed.”

“In addition to that, demanding a higher amount and repeated demanding of money, quoting some reason or the other, would have caused mental agony to the complainant.”
