Haryanvi song “Barsaat” joins Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s India campaign
Two brothers named Sumit and Anuj make songs together in a language called Haryanvi, which is spoken in a part of India.
They call their music group Banjaare.
One of their songs, called “Barsaat,” is about feeling sad after losing love.
Big movie companies liked the song so much they asked to use it to promote a new Spider-Man movie in India.
The movie is called Spider-Man: Brand New Day and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker.
The video shows Spider-Man feeling sad because his friend MJ forgot who he is.
The brothers started making music seriously during the COVID lockdown, when everyone had to stay home.
They say their sad songs are not based on real events in their lives, just feelings they had.
People send them messages saying the music helped them feel better.
The brothers hope people understand that Haryanvi music is not just dance songs, but clean and beautiful music with deep stories.
Haryanvi indie duo Banjaare’s song “Barsaat” became part of the India promotional campaign for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with over 12 million listeners.
The track was originally released independently through Sony Music from a female perspective, then reworked into a male-perspective version at the request of Sony Pictures Entertainment India and Sony Music India.
The collaboration video features Tom Holland’s Peter Parker after MJ loses all memory of him following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Brothers Sumit, 28, and Anuj, turning 24, began pursuing music professionally during the COVID lockdown after growing up in a family of government-service teachers.
The duo, whose earlier hit “Bairan” was celebrated by artists including AP Dhillon and Masoom Sharma, want to challenge stereotypes of Haryanvi music and revive regional languages.
