Supreme Court Clears Promotion Of 42 Deputy Collectors In MP, Upholds Retrospective Benefits From 2016 · freepressjournal.in

In Madhya Pradesh, a state in India, there are people called deputy collectors who do important government work.

The government decides who gets promoted to this job through a special committee.

In 2016, the committee met but did not make any decisions for 42 open promotion spots.

Some officers felt this was unfair because their promotions were being held back.

In 2023, a court said the government was wrong to hold back those promotions.

The court told the government to give the officers their promotions and benefits starting from January 1, 2016.

The government disagreed and asked a bigger court to review the decision, but that court agreed with the first one.

Some other officers who were unhappy went all the way to the Supreme Court of India, the highest court in the country.

The Supreme Court said the promotions could go ahead.

Now all 42 officers can finally get their promotions.
