India Targets One Billion 5G Users by 2030, Scindia Says
India's communications minister says the country wants to have one billion people using 5G by 2030.
He said 550 million people use 5G now.
He also said India wants to become a world leader in 6G.
A group working on 6G includes 90 institutions and has established thousands of patents.

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said India aims to grow its 5G user base from 550 million to one billion by 2030.
Scindia said India intends to lead globally in 6G, and the Bharat 6G Alliance includes 90 institutions and has established 7,700 patents.
The International Telecommunication Union Council accepted India's proposal to host its Plenipotentiary Conference in 2030.
Scindia said broadband customers grew from 60 million to more than 1.1 billion, while mobile customers reached 1.35 billion.
The government-funded BharatNet programme is intended to provide middle-mile connectivity to nearly 2.6 lakh gram panchayats and on-demand connectivity to 3.8 lakh remaining villages.
