India Seeks Higher Fertiliser Subsidies Amid Raw‑Material Cost Rise
The Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) wants the government to raise the subsidies that help farmers buy fertilisers for the 2025‑26 growing season.
They say the price of raw materials has gone up because of a conflict in West Asia.
The government had already approved a big subsidy of about 41,500 crore rupees for phosphatic and potassic fertilisers, which is 12% more than last year.
For 2026, the subsidy rates are set at 47.32 rupees per kilogram for nitrogen, 52.76 for phosphate, 2.38 for potash, and 3.16 for sulphur.
Executives from big fertiliser companies like IFFCO, Coromandel International, Paradeep Phosphates, Indian Potash Ltd, and Indorama met with the FAI to talk about how the conflict might affect the supply of raw materials and the production of fertilisers in India.
FAI is requesting higher Nutrient Based Subsidy rates for the 2025‑26 Kharif season.
The request follows rising raw material costs linked to the West Asia conflict.
The government approved a Rs 41,534 crore subsidy for phosphatic and potassic fertilisers, a 12% increase from last year.
