CAMPCO Warns Imported Arecanut Threatens Domestic Growers and Markets
CAMPCO is a cooperative that buys and sells arecanut and makes chocolate products.
It is worried that imported arecanut is entering the local market.
CAMPCO says some imported nuts may be mixed with local nuts or falsely sold as domestic produce.
The cooperative believes this can make prices fall and make the market harder to track.
It has asked government leaders to monitor imports and enforce the rules.
CAMPCO also objected to a mandi tax in Uttar Pradesh because it raises the cost of trading between states.
Despite these concerns, CAMPCO reported strong business results for 2025-26.
It plans to continue research, expand renewable energy and host an international arecanut conference in 2027.
CAMPCO urged stronger import monitoring and enforcement to prevent imported arecanut from being misclassified or sold as domestic produce.
The cooperative raised concerns with Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman and the Uttar Pradesh chief minister over imports and mandi tax.
CAMPCO reported 2025-26 turnover of ₹3,735 crore and profit before tax of ₹49.62 crore, recommending a 14% dividend.
It procured 58,742.76 metric tonnes of arecanut worth ₹2,924.32 crore and sold 59,088.64 metric tonnes worth ₹2,985.19 crore.
CAMPCO highlighted renewable-energy projects, chocolate sales and plans for an International Arecanut Conference in Mangaluru in January 2027.
