Delhi government repeals bed and breakfast policy, mulls new framework

A bed and breakfast, or B&B, is a place where people can rent rooms to stay, kind of like a small hotel.

Delhi had a set of rules for B&Bs that was made a long time ago, back in 2007.

Those rules were old, and things like booking rooms on the internet didn't really exist back then.

A sad fire at a B&B in Malviya Nagar hurt many people, so leaders wanted better safety rules.

The Delhi government decided to remove the old B&B law.

Now they are writing new rules that they hope will keep people safe but also make it easier for B&B owners to follow the law.

While the new rules are being made, no new B&Bs can be registered under the old law.

The government is also looking at the national government's B&B rules for ideas.

Leaders said the change should make B&Bs safer and better organized.

Until the new policy is ready, the old penalties and rules still apply to existing problems.
