Congress Supports Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu As State Event Opening Song
The government of a place called Tamil Nadu has a special song that makes people feel proud of their language and land.
The leader of the state, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, made a proposal.
The proposal says this song should be played at the start of all official state events.
A minister named Viswanathan said he fully supports this idea.
He said all 8.5 crore people of Tamil Nadu accept this song.
Something happened at a university that made people feel the Tamil language was insulted.
Because of this, many leaders wanted to show respect for the language.
The song was written a long time ago by a professor named P. Sundaram Pillai.
It was part of his play called 'Manonmaniam'.
The government officially made it the state song in 1970.
Congress Minister Viswanathan backed a special resolution moved by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to make 'Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu' the opening song at State government functions and events.
Viswanathan said the resolution had been accepted by the 8.5 crore Tamil people and welcomed the support of several members of the Assembly.
He called a July 28 incident at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University an insult to the Tamil language.
'Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu', popularly sung as 'Neerarum Kadaludutha', was composed by Professor P. Sundaram Pillai for his Tamil play 'Manonmaniam'.
The song was adopted by literary organisations including the Karandhai Tamil Sangam from 1914 and officially recognised as the State song by the Tamil Nadu government in 1970.
