Tamil Nadu Assembly Passes Resolution to Put State Song First

Tamil Nadu is a state in India, and it has its very own state song that praises the Tamil language, much like a thank-you letter to a language.

For many years, since 1970, this song was always played first at big official events in the state.

But the national government in Delhi told states to play Vande Mataram, the national song, first instead.

Some events in Tamil Nadu followed that new rule, and the Tamil song was played third, which made many people unhappy.

So the leader of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Vijay, asked the state assembly to vote on making the Tamil song first again.

Every single member voted yes, so the resolution passed with full agreement.

Now schools, universities, and government offices in Tamil Nadu will play the Tamil song first at their events.

Vijay said Tamil is like a mother to the people, and the song is part of the state's culture and pride.

Some people think the national government is trying to change Tamil traditions, while the state believes it is just protecting its own language.

The national anthem is still played at events; the only question is which song comes first.
