₹198-Crore Kaleshwaram Temple Makeover Advances as Demolition Nears Completion
A very old and important temple in India is getting a big new look.
The temple is called Sri Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy Temple and is in Kaleshwaram in the state of Telangana.
The government is spending a lot of money — ₹198 crore — to rebuild it.
Many old buildings around the temple have been carefully taken down.
The old walls, prayer halls and small shrines are being removed to make space for new ones.
So that people can still pray, a temporary worship place was set up at a nearby temple in the forest.
Every day, prayers and temple visits continue there.
The new temple area will be much bigger and can hold about 25,000 people at one time.
It will also have better facilities, new roads and bathing areas for visitors.
The work should be finished by May 2027, just before a big holy festival called Godavari Pushkaralu.
The Telangana government's ₹198-crore redevelopment of Sri Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy Temple at Kaleshwaram is progressing, with demolition of old structures nearing completion.
Contractor Shivaram & Company began demolition around 10 days ago, starting with the pillars of the Akshareswara Mandapam on the southern side of the temple.
Old structures including compound walls, sub-shrines, the Mirror Mandapam, and the southern, western and northern gopurams have been or are being removed.
Uninterrupted worship continues at a Balaalayam established at Sri Adi Mukteswara Swamy Temple, where daily rituals and darshan were shifted on Thursday.
The new complex will hold nearly 25,000 devotees at a time; Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy sanctioned ₹198 crore for the temple and ₹60 crore for the Ashta Theerthas, with completion targeted by May 2027 ahead of Godavari Pushkaralu.
