Maruti’s Launch Blitz Fails to Lift Market Share
Maruti Suzuki has released several new and improved cars in a short time.
These include the Victoris, electric eVitara, updated Brezza and new Baleno.
The new cars helped Maruti sell more vehicles than last year.
However, the whole car market grew even faster.
Because of this, Maruti’s share of total car sales became slightly smaller.
Analysts say some buyers may have switched from older Maruti cars to newer Maruti cars.
They also say rival companies such as Tata Motors, Mahindra and Kia continued to win new customers.
Maruti may regain some market share during the busy festive shopping season.
Maruti Suzuki launched four fresh or updated products in less than a year, including the Victoris, eVitara, Brezza facelift and Baleno facelift.
Its passenger-vehicle market share fell to 40.3% in January-July 2026 from 40.6% a year earlier.
Maruti’s sales rose 20.3% to 12,23,179 units, slightly below the industry’s 21% growth during the same period.
Analysts said newer models are partly replacing sales of existing Maruti vehicles rather than attracting buyers from rival automakers.
Maruti’s August sales rose 34.8%, while analysts expect the refreshed Brezza, Baleno and upcoming Fronx to support festive-season deliveries.

Effect of new launches
Market-share concerns
Analysts said the launches are largely substituting existing Maruti volumes rather than attracting net-new buyers; Victoris sales coincided with a 13.6% decline in Grand Vitara sales.
Expected festive recovery
Other analysts said judging the launch strategy on seven-month dispatches is incomplete because the refreshed Brezza, Baleno and upcoming Fronx have not yet delivered their full festive-quarter effect.

Expected festive recovery
Maruti’s August sales rose 34.8%, and analysts said stronger plant output, aligned dealer inventories and festive demand could help the company claw back market share.

An analyst tracking model-wise automobile sales.
“In addition, while sales of the volume products such as the Wagon R, Swift, Baleno, Alto, and Fronx are growing, these have not really attracted buyers from competitors. Overall, while cars like the Victoris are converting existing Maruti Suzuki hatchback and sub-4-metre SUV buyers into higher-priced SUVs, they haven’t stopped rivals like Tata Motors, Mahindra, and Kia from capturing incremental market growth.”

“While the Victoris generated 85,246 units in the first seven months of 2026, sales of the Grand Vitara dropped 13.6% from 62,423 units in January-July 2025 to 53,938 units during the same period this year.”
