Janmashtami is a festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna.

Thousands of people came to Mathura to visit temples and take part in the celebrations.

It rained in the evening, but the rain did not stop the devotees for long.

Many people waited in long lines to enter Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi.

Crowds also made traffic slower in several parts of the city.

In Vrindavan, the Shri Banke Bihari Temple planned special midnight prayers and decorations.

A large cake and a special bathing ceremony were part of the temple program.

Mathura also hosted music, dancing and other cultural performances on 27 stages.
