Tiruchirappalli Dry Port Project Moves Toward Government Execution
A dry port is a place where goods can be handled even though it is not beside the sea.
The proposed project would be built in Tiruchirappalli.
The Union government asked Tamil Nadu for a plan.
After that, the Centre ordered the project to be carried out, according to MP Durai Vaiko.
He said Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay supports the project.
He also said the Union government is interested in moving it forward.
Durai Vaiko has discussed the project with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman five times.
The project could provide more than 12,500 direct jobs and many more indirect jobs.
The Union government asked Tamil Nadu to submit a draft plan for a dry port at Tiruchirappalli.
MP Durai Vaiko said the Centre ordered execution after receiving the state’s plan.
He said Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had shown interest in implementing the project.
Durai Vaiko said documentation would be completed shortly because both governments support the project.
The dry port is expected to create more than 12,500 direct jobs and indirect employment for lakhs.
