Machilipatnam Port to Open with Four Berths by March 2027
There is an old port called the Machilipatnam port in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
A long time ago, before India became independent, the port was a very busy place for ships.
Later, the port lost its importance and stopped working.
Many people protested and asked for the port to be brought back.
Now the port is being built again, and a minister named Kollu Ravindra says it will be ready by March 2027.
The four places where ships stop, called berths, are almost finished.
The big walls that protect the port from waves, called breakwaters, are 95 per cent complete.
The minister said the work was delayed between 2019 and 2024 but sped up after the current NDA alliance government came to power in 2024.
He also said some leaders once tried to move the port to a place called Gogileru, and that the port will help nearby cities and create jobs for young people.
Excise and mines minister Kollu Ravindra said the Machilipatnam port will become operational with four berths by March 2027.
The four berths are nearing completion, and 95 per cent of the north and south breakwater works are done.
Preparations are being made for the port's inauguration and commissioning between March and June 2027.
Ravindra credited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, saying the port that flourished before Independence and later closed is being revived.
The minister alleged the project was neglected during 2019-24 and accused YSRC leaders Perni Nani and Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy of trying to shift the port to Gogileru.
