Chennai Vaccinates Over 22,000 Stray Dogs in Eight-Day Drive
Chennai started a large health campaign for stray dogs.
Workers gave the dogs anti-rabies vaccines.
They also provided treatments to remove internal and external parasites.
More than 22,000 dogs were treated in the first eight working days.
The campaign began on August 11.
It first focused on three areas of the city: Tiruvottiyur, Manali, and Tondiarpet.
Officials said the campaign is meant to protect people from rabies.
The city plans to continue the work in its other zones.
The Greater Chennai Corporation vaccinated and treated 22,158 stray dogs during the first eight working days of its campaign.
The mass immunisation drive began on August 11 to protect the public and help make Chennai rabies-free.
The initial phase covered Tiruvottiyur, Manali, and Tondiarpet zones.
Dogs received anti-rabies vaccines along with internal and external deworming treatments.
The corporation deployed 10 teams per zone and plans to expand the drive across Chennai.
