West Bengal to Open 150-Seat College, 650-Bed Hospital
A new medical college and hospital are going to open in Durgapur.
The college will train 150 new medical students every year.
Its hospital will have 650 beds for patients.
The campus will also have laboratories, classrooms, and separate hostels for male and female students.
Students have already started the admission process.
Durgapur will then have four private medical colleges with 850 MBBS seats in total.
A different hospital project is also planned in New Town.
That hospital is expected to have 2,000 beds, including 1,000 beds for free care for poorer patients.
SKS Medical College and Bengal Hospital are set to be inaugurated in Bidhan Nagar, Durgapur, on September 21.
The medical college has National Medical Commission approval for 150 MBBS seats annually.
The attached Bengal Hospital will have 650 beds and super-specialty services, with separate student hostels.
Admissions and counseling have begun for the college’s first-year MBBS cohort.
A separate proposed 2,000-bed hospital in New Town is planned to reserve 1,000 beds for free treatment of economically weaker patients.
