Ladakh Groups Present Non-Negotiable Demands to Home Ministry
Ladakh’s civil society groups met government officials in Leh.
They gave the government a list of demands they said could not be compromised.
Sonam Wangchuk and Ladakh MP Mohammad Hanifa Jan attended the meeting.
The groups want Ladakh to have an elected Legislative Assembly.
They also want that assembly to control taxes, budgets, spending, borrowing, and public money.
They asked for special constitutional protection for these powers.

The meeting happened after earlier talks in New Delhi on May 22.
The Kargil Democratic Alliance and Leh Apex Body met Ministry of Home Affairs officials in Leh on Wednesday.
The groups submitted a list of “important and non-negotiable points” concerning Ladakh’s governance and constitutional safeguards.
Sonam Wangchuk, Ladakh MP Mohammad Hanifa Jan, and other representatives attended the meeting.
The meeting followed the last formal engagement between Ladakh groups and the Ministry of Home Affairs on May 22 in New Delhi.
The groups sought an elected Ladakh Legislative Assembly with constitutionally protected financial powers and dedicated public funds.
