Ladakh Groups Present Non-Negotiable Demands to Home Ministry

Ladakh’s civil society groups met government officials in Leh.

They gave the government a list of demands they said could not be compromised.

Sonam Wangchuk and Ladakh MP Mohammad Hanifa Jan attended the meeting.

The groups want Ladakh to have an elected Legislative Assembly.

They also want that assembly to control taxes, budgets, spending, borrowing, and public money.

They asked for special constitutional protection for these powers.

They also requested protected consolidated and contingency funds.

The meeting happened after earlier talks in New Delhi on May 22.
