HCC Wins ₹524-Crore NHPC Contract for Salal Dam Repairs
A big construction company in India called HCC just got a very important job.
The job is to fix a huge dam called the Salal Dam.
This dam makes electricity using the power of water.
The dam is in a place called Jammu and Kashmir.
The company that owns the dam, NHPC, asked HCC to do this work.
HCC will be paid lots of money — more than 500 crore rupees.
HCC has 27 months to finish the work.
The work will clean and fix special low-level tunnels called undersluices.
These tunnels help remove mud and sand from the water.
When they work properly, the dam makes electricity better and stays safer.
Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) won a Rs 524.17 crore contract from NHPC Limited for work at the Salal Power Station in Jammu & Kashmir.
The 27-month contract covers civil and hydro-mechanical repair and improvement work on the concrete dam, including restoring its undersluices.
Restoring the undersluices is expected to improve the power station's working efficiency, ease sediment management, and strengthen the dam's safety and reliability.
HCC originally built the 690 MW Salal Hydroelectric Project, which started operations in 1987.
HCC's five hydropower projects in Jammu & Kashmir have a combined capacity of 1,352 MW, about 38 percent of the region's installed hydropower capacity.
