AIIMS Bhopal Conducts First Contact Programme for IGNOU Geriatric Students
Some doctors and health workers want to learn how to take care of older people, who are sometimes called 'geriatric' patients.
A special school called IGNOU teaches them a course in geriatric medicine.
The students have to go to a big hospital called AIIMS Bhopal for part of their training.
This was the first time they all gathered there for a learning session.
They sat in classrooms and listened to lessons from doctors.
They also visited hospital wards and watched doctors examine patients.
They learned about bone problems in older people and how to care for them in communities.
Twelve students from different backgrounds took part.
When they finished, they knew more about helping elderly people stay healthy.
AIIMS Bhopal held the first spell of the contact programme for students of IGNOU's Post Graduate Diploma in Geriatric Medicine (PGDGM).
The programme combined academic lectures, bedside clinical demonstrations, case discussions and observational clinical postings.
Training spanned departments including Orthopaedics, General Medicine, Community and Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Dentistry and Dermatology.
A total of 12 participants from diverse professional backgrounds attended the programme.
Sessions covered topics such as musculoskeletal disorders in older adults and community-based geriatric care.
