Bhopal’s AIIMS Gives 9-Month-Old Gift Of Hearing With Advanced Cochlear Implants · freepressjournal.in

Doctors at AIIMS Bhopal placed special hearing devices in both ears of a 9-month-old baby.

The doctors said the baby is the youngest cochlear implant recipient in Central India.

They also said the baby is the first person in Madhya Pradesh to receive this newest type of implant.

A system called SmartNav helped doctors watch where the device’s electrode was going during surgery.

The baby was born early and had meningitis after birth.

Meningitis can make the part of the ear used for the implant become hard over time.

The devices still need to be switched on and adjusted.

After that, the baby will receive regular training to help develop hearing, speech, and language skills.
