Dalit Girl’s Suicide Prompts Abetment Case Against School Headmistress

A 16-year-old girl went with her mother to ask for admission to a government school.

She wanted to leave her old school and study nursing.

During the visit, the girl reportedly asked her mother not to stand with folded hands.

The headmistress allegedly became angry, insulted the girl, and used a casteist remark.

The girl died by suicide at home the next day, according to police.

Her family said she was very upset and had not eaten that night.

Police first treated the case as an unnatural death but later added an abetment-of-suicide charge against the headmistress.

Investigators are checking CCTV footage and considering whether the SC/ST Act applies.
