8 Key Income Tax Deadlines From August to December 2026
Every year, grown-ups who earn money have to tell the government about their income by filling a special form.
This is called filing a tax return.
The year 2026 has several important dates when people must do this.
If some people file their return a bit late, they have until the end of December to send it.
People who earn money from jobs other than a regular salary also pay their taxes in parts during the year.
They need to pay almost half of their taxes by September and three-quarters by December.
People whose accounts are checked by an auditor have a different, later deadline to file.
Anyone who already filed but made a mistake can send a corrected form until March 2027.
If you miss these dates, you may have to pay extra money as a penalty.
So it's smart to mark these dates on a calendar!
The Income Tax Department has outlined 8 key tax compliance deadlines from August to December 2026 for AY 2026-27.
31 August 2026 is the ITR filing deadline for certain non-audit taxpayers, while 31 October 2026 applies to taxpayers subject to tax audit.
Advance tax payers must have paid 45% of estimated annual tax liability by 15 September and 75% by 15 December 2026.
31 December 2026 is the last date for belated ITR filing for AY 2026-27; revised returns can be filed until 31 March 2027.
AY 2026-27 is governed by the Income-tax Act, 1961, even though the new Income-tax Act, 2025, came into force on 1 April 2026.
