American investors owned about $390 billion worth of Indian stocks and bonds at the end of 2025.

That amount was three times the $130 billion they owned in 2015.

Most of the money, $380 billion, was invested in Indian company shares.

Another $11 billion was invested in Indian long-term debt.

India was the 12th-largest destination for American portfolio investment.

American holdings in mainland China were worth $318 billion, less than their holdings in India.

The survey counted the market value of securities, not factories or other physical investments.

Overall, Americans owned about $19.3 trillion in securities from outside the United States.

Most of that total was invested in foreign stocks.
