Tharoor, CPI(M) Back Moitra in Nadia Circuit House Row

Mahua Moitra is an elected member of India's Parliament who was staying at a government guest house called a circuit house in Krishnanagar.

Late one night, officials told her she had to leave, saying the order 'had come from the top.'

She said nobody told her about any problem when she checked in.

A large crowd gathered outside and shouted slogans, and she felt harassed and unsafe.

The district administration later shared an order saying the circuit house would be closed for cleaning and maintenance.

Moitra asked the Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, to help protect her and other women lawmakers.

Other politicians, including Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, said the government should protect her instead of asking her to leave.

The CPI(M) party also supported her and planned to raise the matter in Parliament.

People see the same event very differently: some think it was just a maintenance rule, while others think it was an attempt to bully an elected leader.
