Assam CM Announces Six-Month Loan Moratorium for Flood Victims
The state of Assam had big floods that hurt many people.
The chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said that people who borrowed money from banks can pause paying back for six months.
He also said banks can give extra money to shop owners whose shops were destroyed.
The government will give each village prayer hall a grant of 1.5 lakh rupees and give 15,000 rupees to every family right now.
They also plan to fix roads and help farmers and small businesses.
About 2.12 lakh people are still affected and 80 people have died from the floods.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a six‑month loan repayment moratorium for flood‑affected borrowers in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts.
The moratorium covers all loan types; banks will verify cases and unaffected borrowers must keep paying EMIs.
Additional relief includes extending loan tenures up to seven years for housing, education, vehicle, agriculture, MSME loans, and a Rs 10,000 credit for damaged shop owners.
The state will provide a one‑time Rs 1.5 lakh grant to each Namghar in Sivasagar and Charaideo and a Rs 15,000 interim relief to every household.
Over 2.12 lakh people remain affected, 45 roads (100 km) need repair, and the death toll from this year’s floods has risen to 80.
