ED attaches Rs 2.69 crore properties in Arunachal land scam
A special police agency called the Enforcement Directorate is looking into a big money problem in a state called Arunachal Pradesh in India.
The problem is about money that was given to people whose land was taken to build a new highway.
Some of that money was given wrongly, because things like bamboo trees and buildings that people said were on their land were not really there.
One person named Nyakpo Yangfo got about 3.36 crore rupees for his land.
But investigators found that a lot of that money was extra and should not have been given.
Right after getting the money, this person used it to buy two pieces of land.
So the enforcement officers took over those newly bought properties worth about 2.69 crore rupees.
They are doing this to take back money that was gotten by cheating.
The officers found a clear trail showing the money went from the cheating into the new properties.
The investigation is still going on to find other people who also got too much money.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) provisionally attached two immovable properties worth Rs 2.69 crore under the PMLA, 2002, in connection with alleged irregularities in land acquisition compensation in Arunachal Pradesh.
The attached properties belong to Nyakpo Yangfo, who received compensation aggregating Rs 3.36 crore under Package-IV and V of the Lada-Sarli Frontier Highway Project.
Around Rs 3.25 crore was identified as excess or ineligible compensation after physical verification found bamboo, other ordinary trees and SPT buildings did not exist.
The properties include 7,950 sq m of land at Taraso village worth Rs 1.59 crore and 3,440 sq m of land with two fish ponds at Chessa village worth Rs 1.10 crore in Balijan Circle of Papum Pare district.
The ED said investigation was initiated on the basis of an FIR registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) at Itanagar against various government officials and private beneficiaries, and further investigation into other beneficiaries is underway.
