Andhra Pradesh Launches First In-Situ Slum Redevelopment Project
Andhra Pradesh has started a new housing project in Lakshmi Nagar, Visakhapatnam.
It is the state’s first project to rebuild a slum in the same place.
This means the families living there will not have to move permanently to another area.
A tall building with 177 homes will be built for 177 families.
The project will cost Rs.28.44 crore.
Families will receive money to help pay rent while construction is underway.
The building is expected to be finished in nine months.
Officials want to give the homes to residents by June 2027.
They hope this project can become a model for improving other slum areas.
Minister Ponguru Narayana launched Andhra Pradesh’s first in-situ slum redevelopment project at Lakshmi Nagar in Visakhapatnam.
The Rs.28.44-crore complex will provide modern homes for 177 families without permanently relocating them.
The 177-unit building will be constructed on 2,691 square yards, with 15 units on floors one through 11 and 12 units on the 12th floor.
Construction is expected to take nine months, with handover targeted for June 2027.
Beneficiaries will receive Rs.3,000 monthly rental assistance during construction, while project funding includes PMAY and state government contributions.
