UP Teen Stages AI-Assisted Fake Kidnapping Over Online Gaming Debt
A teenage boy in India pretended that bad people had taken him away.
He wanted money from his dad because he owed money from playing online games.
He sent his dad messages saying he had been kidnapped and asking for money.
He also sent a picture that looked like his eye was badly hurt.
But the picture was fake—it was made with a computer program called artificial intelligence.
The boy hid at his friend's house and kept his phone switched off.
Police found him by following clues from the internet connection he used to send the messages.
When they questioned him, they learned the whole story was made up.
The boy was then given back to his dad.
The case shows how fake computer-made pictures can be used to trick people.
A 16-year-old Class 11 student in Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, staged his own kidnapping to extract Rs 1 lakh from his businessman father.
He sent his father WhatsApp ransom messages along with an AI-generated image reported to show a badly injured eye (or blood marks and a taped mouth).
The demand doubled to Rs 2 lakh in cash after the father said he could not arrange an online payment.
The teen hid at a friend's house with his phone switched off, but his use of a Wi-Fi connection to send messages left a trail police followed to trace him within about two and a quarter hours.
Police confirmed there was no kidnapping; the teen admitted the plan and was handed back to his father after questioning.
