Carlyle Completes Majority Stake Acquisition in Nido Home Finance
Carlyle, a large investment firm, has bought a majority share of Nido Home Finance.
Nido lends money for homes, especially to people in affordable and middle-income housing markets.
Carlyle is investing more than ₹2,000 crore through new money and by buying shares from Edelweiss.
About ₹725 crore of the new investment has already arrived.
More money will be added during the next 18 months.
This could nearly triple Nido’s net worth to around ₹2,300 crore.
Edelweiss will still own about 26% of the company after the investment is completed.
The companies say the deal will help Nido lend to more customers and expand in rural and semi-urban areas.
Carlyle Asia Partners invested more than ₹2,000 crore to acquire a majority stake in Nido Home Finance.
The transaction included about ₹1,450 crore in primary capital and a ₹600 crore purchase of Edelweiss’s 45% stake.
Approximately ₹725 crore of the primary infusion has been received, with the remainder due over 18 months.
Nido’s net worth is expected to nearly triple to about ₹2,300 crore after the capital infusion.
Edelweiss will retain roughly 26% of Nido on a fully diluted basis and plans to use proceeds to reduce debt.
