Monsoon Session ends in washout; only 12 bills passed

The Indian Parliament is where leaders meet to make new laws for the country.

The Monsoon Session is one of these big meetings, held during the rainy season.

This year, the meeting ended on August 13 with almost nothing getting done.

The government said this happened because some leaders caused trouble and walked out of the room.

In fact, only 12 new laws were passed instead of many more.

The leaders who walked out said they were protesting because police were too rough with students who were demonstrating.

They also wanted the government to answer questions about what happened.

On the last day, both groups stood on the steps of the Parliament building shouting slogans at each other.

Their chants included the words '56 inch ka chhota bandar,' which means 'small monkey of 56 inches.'

Because of all the arguing, the whole session is being called a washout.
