Maharashtra targets top hub status for Global Capability Centres
A big state in India called Maharashtra wants to become the best place in the country for companies to set up special offices called Global Capability Centres, or GCCs.
These offices used to do simple, low-cost tasks like back-office support.
Now, they are becoming high-value hubs where companies do engineering, build artificial intelligence tools, create new products, protect against cyber attacks, and do research.
The leader of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, announced this big goal at a meeting in Pune.
He wants 400 new GCCs, which would create 400,000 skilled jobs and bring in Rs 50,000 crore of investment.
Different cities in Maharashtra will do different kinds of work, like Mumbai for finance and Pune for engineering and technology.
Pune is already doing very well — in 2025 it was India's second-biggest office market for GCCs.
The state will help companies with money support, land, and faster approvals.
Fadnavis believes this will help Maharashtra reach its target of becoming a $1 trillion economy.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced Maharashtra's goal to become India's leading destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs).
The state targets 400 new GCCs, 400,000 high-skilled jobs, and Rs 50,000 crore in investments.
Fadnavis said GCCs are evolving from low-cost back-office work into hubs for engineering, artificial intelligence, product development, cybersecurity, financial services, data analytics, and R&D.
Maharashtra is banking on a network of specialised cities including Mumbai, Pune, Navi Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Pune became India's second-largest office market for GCCs in 2025 and is expected to lead the nation in the GCC sector by the end of 2026.
