Amarnath Yatra suspended due to heavy rain weather forecast

The Amarnath Yatra is a pilgrimage that takes people to a holy cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.

People on this trip are called Yatris.

Because of bad weather, the people in charge stopped the Yatra on Saturday.

Weather experts had forecast heavy rain, especially in the Jammu division.

No pilgrims were allowed to move from Jammu toward the Valley that day.

More than 4.75 lakh Yatris had already visited the holy cave shrine by Friday.

Now, fewer Yatris are arriving in Jammu for the trip.

Officials said no fresh group of Yatris could leave the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu.

The weather and the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway will be watched closely, because it is the only road to the base camps.

When the weather gets better, officials will review the situation and decide when to start the Yatra again.
