Madhya Pradesh Puts Crashed ₹65-Crore Aircraft on Sale
The government of Madhya Pradesh, a state in India, bought a special airplane in 2020 for about 65 crore rupees.
That is a lot of money, but after flying for only about eight months, the airplane crashed at an airport in Gwalior in May 2021.
Investigators looked into what went wrong and said the crash was caused by human error, which means people made a mistake.
Because of that, the pilot and the co-pilot were not allowed to fly for one year.
The company that made the airplane said that even if it was repaired, it would not be safe to carry important government guests.
So the government decided to sell the crashed airplane and its 1,793 spare parts.
They set the lowest acceptable price at 7 crore rupees, which is much less than they paid.
If the airplane sells at that price, the government will lose more than 55 crore rupees.
People who want to buy it must send their bids by August 17.
The Madhya Pradesh government floated a Request for Proposal to sell the crashed aircraft SKA B200GT (VT-MPQ, Serial No. BY373) along with 1,793 spare parts.
The reserve price is ₹7 crore; the aircraft was procured in 2020 for nearly ₹65 crore including taxes, meaning a potential loss of over ₹55 crore.
The aircraft was operational for only about eight months before it crashed at Gwalior airport in May 2021.
The DGCA probe concluded the crash was caused by human error, not a technical fault; pilot Majid Khan and co-pilot Shiv Jaiswal had their licences suspended for one year.
US-based manufacturer Textron Aviation Inc. said the aircraft would not be fit to fly VIPs even if repaired, and bids are due by August 17.
